Biography

Janet Rentsch is the Director of Sponsored Programs at Saginaw Valley State University.  She assists faculty/staff in identifying funding opportunities, assists with technical/business elements of the application, and steers the application through the administrative processes/offices.  She instructs on agency priorities, communicates with program officers, and instructs on how to develop an application to address targeted areas within the faculty member’s discipline/interest.

During FY16, a total of $5,540,354 in external funding was awarded to the University for research and sponsored projects. Grants and contracts supported education, student services, and program development projects - 86 proposals were submitted to external sponsors with 52 (60%) receiving funding.  In FY16 - 153 internal grant awards were made over 11 different programs totaling $460,940 and 172 hrs of release time. 

Janet oversees export controls, IRB and IACUC administration, research compliance, and tech transfer at SVSU.  Example of tech transfer:  STAGES, K-12 educator evaluation software, was licensed to Zimco, Inc. located in Frankenmuth, MI.  They have sold over $1,818,178 end-user licenses to 169 school districts/ISDs and added 12 new jobs to support sales and development of the software.  To date, SVSU received over $278,430 in royalty fees. 

Janet lives in Midland with her husband, Stefan.

Rentsch has worked as an adjunct and a lecturer for the English Department and taught the following classes:  English 082-Fundamentals of College Learning; English 103-College Reading and Learning; English 104-Academic Success; English 104L-Individual Reading and Vocab.; English 111-Composition I; English 112-Composition II; English 261-Introduction to Creative Writing; English 272-American Literature; English 300-Writing in the Professions; English 536-Writing Workshop (Saginaw Bay Writing Project).

She regularly gives grant writing workshops on and off campus.
